Computer Network

Introductionof computer network : in the group a lot of computers are connected to each other, then they are called the network of computers and when they connect with each other and share the data from there as an information, then follow some specific types of rules. These rules are executed by o.s.i. modul. When two or more computers are interconnected with some peripherals connected, such as fax ,printers  then this allows sharing of information.

Need for computer network :

1. (ArpaNet) It was the first network in the world at the University of California established in 1969 in which Douglas. engelbarts. The role was pivotal.Basic Arpanet was based on long-distance remote computer technology.Remote Computing Program also known as (Telnet) in which discussion and sharing was done from one computer to another. In the form of information news.

FTP: Utility software which is use for   dowanloading files.

NETWORK TYPE: LAN , MAN , CAN , WAN

lan:it Means small area .it connect

computers& workstation to share data& resources such as printer or faxes.it's use in home , office, college.

Institute of electrical & electronic engineers(IEEE) in the united states of america, produced a series of standard for lans called(IEEE 802 STANDARD)

NODES: personal computer is connected to a network at a particular location, then that

is called nodes.

PACKET : Packet is a block of information transmitted through the network. block of information include data unit or pieces of data.

PROTOCOL: Protocol is the set of rull that establish a connection& transmit data between two devices.

TERMINAL: A device which enables the user

to input & get output of the data . Device such as keyboard is used for data input & monitor is used to display the output of data.

WORK STATION: Work station are used to compute& execute application " they are not passive parties to the computing process .
IBM computer apple macintosh computer" or unique machine from sun microsystem are the few work station.

LAN: CONNECTED computer in office & home ( covers a local area of 1 K.M., DATA transmission 10 to 100 m.b.p.s., standard IEEE 802  low cost).

CAN : connect two or more lans with in campous .( covers 5 to 100 k.m., rate- variable, high cost).

MAN: INTERCONNECT network in a town or city.(  covers 2 to 100 k.m., rate variable, high cost, standard IEEE 802).
WAN: CONNECTED geographically  separated lans ( covers more than 100 K.M.,
64 K.B.P.S speed ,USE (ITU),standard  high cost.
